I was a medical student in the pediatric ward and there were two different worlds on either side of the hall.
In one room was a stunning 2 year old girl with blonde hair and blue eyes and the sweetest smile ever, a real stunner. She had Down syndrome with mild complications and was abandoned by her parents at childbirth - she was always alone.
Across the hall was a boy of the same age with Down syndrome, but a world apart. He had severe complications from his illness, and physically his features were very distorted. His mother was with him day and night always cooing -" my prince, my beautiful boy", always hugging and touching. The sounds of laughter of the child reverberated in the halls constantly.
Across the hall there was silence.
